NOTES:
The first brush strokes were applied by high school friends gathering at the beach to tell
stories, laugh, and to play some music. Jerry, Neil, Gordon, Van, Mississippi John, Hank,
Bob, the Flying Burrito Brothers, the White Brothers, the Seagram Brothers ... and a few
of John's songs. Cahuenga Street, Uncle Dave, potatoes & eggs, dobro, Paul, Spike,
Beam's, Franklin Lane, chess at the lake, Opie, Benjy, ... and a few more of John's songs.
Gigs in Port Hueneme, Santa Cruz, Ventura, South Central LA, Dallas, San Francisco, Ojai,
Santa Barbara--and the mural expanded, with more music, more stories from the
neighborhood, friends, lovers, jams, colleges, weddings, births, miles, deaths ... all
reflected in the pallette of John's growing collection of songs, shaded by all with care.
The young daughter at our local music store grows up, and adds a new voice and deeper
colors, as if she had always been singing these songs with us. Craig adds his fine paints
and feel, almost as if he were from Silver Strand. A long lifetime of family and friends
and new songs and jams remain before the mural is done. This recording is an aural
snapshot of a special work in progress. We hope you enjoy it.
